Week 5: Macro Shots

Hello all,

I decided to take some more Macro photos. I felt that my photos were not what Professor Nevins was looking for. So I decided to take my photos after looking at his comment and talking to him in another class. These pictures were taken on campus. I hope you enjoy!

  1. A much better series here Alyssa… You went outside to work under cloudy conditions and got in much closer.

Starting from the top the before is a better rendering than the after… You made the after much too dark and look how blue it got. The top one is more balanced and a much better approach.

The next one down of the bumblebee on the flower is lovely. Again, the before version is stronger... much stronger than the second version.

Same thing for the next one I love the composition. The lighter version is much better than the darker one. It suffers a bit from the focal point of the white flowers being a little out of focus… Macro photography is tricky unless you are using a tripod because the movements of your body even tiny ones can throw the picture out of focus before the shutter is fully released.

I love how close you are in on this leaf and the way your filling the frame again the focal point where the veins all come together as a little out of focus… The darker version is way too dark.

I love the challenge you set for yourself in getting this close… Again it would be really nice to have the pistols and stamens in sharp focus… That's all technique that can be learned through further practice. Adding a tripod and knowing how to use it and then learning about depth of field as it relates to aperture and focal length is the next step in learning how to be a better photographer. I do prefer the lighter one over the darker one.

The berries on the branch with the leaves as the final image is also a nice macro image. Here you have nice sharp focus on the outer to berries… In the editing I would rich and the outer edge ( burn in the outer edge just a bit )... The editing and the last one almost makes it I guess in this case I might prefer it to the later version but it's a bit heavy-handed possibly… Perhaps not…

All in all a much better series thanks for the redo!
